“Ieke van den Burg Prize for Research on Systemic Risk” – call for papers for 2018 and award for 2017

6 December 2017

Call for papers for the 2018 Ieke van den Burg Prize for Research on Systemic Risk

The ESRB awards an annual prize for outstanding research on systemic risk by young scholars. The prize is awarded in memory of Ieke van den Burg, who was a member of the inaugural Advisory Scientific Committee (ASC) from 2011 to 2014 and a member of the European Parliament from 1999 to 2009. Ms van den Burg was dedicated to the notion that finance should serve society and this prize is administered in that spirit.

Today, the ESRB is launching the call for papers for the 2018 Ieke van den Burg Prize. As in previous years, the ESRB is seeking completed papers related to the ESRB’s mission of preventing and mitigating systemic risks to financial stability. Applicants must be under 35 years old on 31 December 2017. The author(s) of the winning paper will receive €5,000 to support their research activities and will be expected to present their research at the ESRB Annual Conference.

The deadline for applications is 31 March 2018, midnight CET.

Further information is provided in the call for papers, issued together with this press release.

Award of the 2017 Ieke van den Burg Prize for Research on Systemic Risk

After a highly competitive selection process, which involved multiple blind peer reviews, the ESRB decided to award the 2017 Ieke van den Burg Prize for Research on Systemic Risk to the paper: "Compressing over-the-counter markets" by Mr Marco d’Errico and Mr Tarik Roukny (published as ESRB Working Paper no.44).

The Prize was awarded at the ESRB Annual Conference on 21-22 September 2017. A video of the award being made by Mr Javier Suárez, Vice-Chair of the ASC, the presentation of the paper and the Q&A session are available on YouTube.

In addition, some of the papers shortlisted will also be published as part of the ESRB Working Paper Series in due course.
